We have given the Montrose Animal Protection Agency (MAPA) a 2008 grant to continue their subsidized spay/neuter program in Montrose County, Colorado. Thanks MAPA for helping to end the suffering and euthanasia of homeless pets on the Western Slope!

Kayenta Arizona Spay/Neuter Clinics

This year we are partnering with the Pegasus Foundation to sponsor a series of spay/neuter clinics on the Navajo Nation in Kayenta, Arizona. Dr. Carol Holgate, a Navajo vet in private practice in Tuba City, will provide spay/neuter and vaccination services to the animals of Kayenta's low-income residents during a series of six clinics in 2008.

Durango Conversation

On June 28 2008 the Foundation for Protection of Animals hosted an all-day meeting for local animal welfare organizations at the Durango Rec Center. The meeting was sponsored by the FPA, Summerlee Foundation, Colorado Pet Overpopulation Fund, and Animal Assistance Foundation. The day was an opportunity for groups to introduce themselves, discuss goals and challenges, and listen to presentations about current Colorado animal welfare issues. Representatives from over 15 organizations, 2 states, and 4 counties attended. The outcome was new knowledge, new contacts, and the formation of a yahoo group.

Dogster's Spay and Neuter Program provides low-cost surgeries for pets of qualifying residents of La Plata County. The efforts of this organization have prevented the unnecessary suffering of thousands of unwanted dogs and cats in SW Colorado since 2005.

Feral Feline Society

The Feral Feline Society is dedicated to the trap-neuter-release of feral cats in Eagle County, CO. The Society cares for the colonies and ensures that no more unwanted litters will be produced. We have awarded the Feral Feline Society with a grant to spay/neuter and vaccinate these wild kitties. Click here to watch a video of this group in action.

Durango Wildlife Rehabilitation Center

The Durango Wildlife Rehabilitation Center accepts injured and orphaned wild animals from the La Plata County area and cares for them until they can be safely released back to the wild. The Foundation for Protection of Animals has awarded a grant toward the refurbishment of flight cages to this worthy organization.

For Pets' Sake Humane Society, serving Montezuma and Dolores Counties in Colorado, provides spay/neuter assistance for low-income families. They also foster and adopt out homeless animals. Colorado Horse Rescue

Colorado Horse Rescue, located in Longmont Colorado, rescues and rehabilitates unwanted horses from throughout the state. CHR often provides sanctuary and placement for horses confiscated by state cruelty authorities. We have awarded a 2008 grant toward Colorado Horse Rescue's winter hay purchase. Eagle Valley Humane Society

The foundation is proud to support the Eagle Valley Humane Society in Eagle, Colorado, with a grant toward their Pen Pals program. Inmates from the county jail are matched up with shelter dogs and put through a rigorous training program. The dogs learn obedience and manners and the inmates learn compassion and new skills. Spring Creek Horse Rescue

Spring Creek Horse Rescue provides care and respite for neglected and abused horses in the Four Corners region. The Foundation for Protection of Animals has awarded a 2008 grant to Spring Creek for advertising, training, and general operating expenses.
