Disaster Relief


Since January 2007, FPA Executive Director Wendy Haugen has been training in emergency animal rescue in order to provide in-kind assistance rescuing animal victims of natural disasters.  Wendy has participated in several training programs, and augmented her experience as a former animal control officer through her in-kind work with local animal shelters.  Wendy is a responder for the Humane Society of the United States and the American Humane Association.

American Humane Association Animal Emergency Sheltering Training

On October 4-5, 2008 the Foundation for Protection of Animals, along with Four Corners Equine Rescue and the San Juan County Sheriff's Posse will be co-hosting an Animal Emergency Sheltering training from the American Humane Association.  The course will be held at the San Juan County fairgrounds near Farmington, New Mexico.  Topics to be covered include the incident command system, animal first aid, temporary sheltering, and large and small animal handling.  For more information or to sign up, please go to the AHA website .
